Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT) is a surgical hair transplant procedure that involves removing a strip of scalp from a donor area (typically the back or sides of the head), and transplanting individual hair follicles into a recipient (balding or thinning) area.
Dr. Shah does not offer FUT hair transplantation at his practice because he believes most patients are more suitable candidates for FUE. If during your consultation Dr. Shah determines FUT would be a better option, he will gladly refer you to trusted colleagues who perform this procedure.

Donor Area Preparation: The patient's scalp is prepared for surgery by trimming the hair in the donor area.
Local Anesthesia: Local anesthesia is administered to numb the donor area, ensuring the patient remains comfortable throughout the procedure.
Strip Harvesting:A strip of scalp tissue is surgically removed from the donor area. The size of the strip depends on the number of grafts required and the patient's specific needs. The incision is closed with sutures and staples.
Dissection of Follicular Units: The strip of scalp is dissected under a microscope into individual follicular units, which are groups of one to four hair follicles. These follicular units are carefully prepared for transplantation.
The donor strip is usually dissected under microscopes to separate the follicular units into 1-4 hair grafts.
Recipient Area Preparation: The recipient area, where the hair will be transplanted, is prepared by making tiny incisions or slits in the scalp. The size, angle, and placement of these incisions are crucial to achieve a natural-looking result.
Graft Placement: The prepared follicular units are transplanted into the recipient area. The surgeon and their team meticulously place each graft into the recipient sites, taking care to ensure proper alignment and density.
Post-Operative Care: After the procedure, the patient is provided with care instructions on how to care for the transplanted area. This may include information on medication, post-operative care routines, and activity restrictions.
